This July, Active Circle partnered with over 7 other wellness organizations for the annual JCNC Health Fair! This event involved over 500+ participants alone, as well as 33 healthcare professionals, and 12 student volunteers. It was hosted at the Jain Center of Northern California (JCNC) in Milpitas, California.
At the fair there were 9 health talks, done by specialists in the many areas of medicine, where the healthcare professionals talked about a variety of topics including: Stroke Prevention, Cancer Prevention, Child Health and Development, Basics of Homeopathy and so much more! These talks were designed not only to inform but also to empower individuals with knowledge that can be carried into their everyday lives.
There were also 2-Ask-A-Doc Panels, one being a Physical Health Panel, where cardiologists, pediatricians, and dentists shared advice on maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle. The Mental Health Panel included professionals in psychology, Ayurveda, and emotional wellbeing, who spoke about the importance of prioritizing mental health and managing stress in our fast-paced world. During these sessions, awareness surrounding so many topics were discussed so that it could be continued to impact and spread positively among the community.
Along with talks, there were free health screenings and booths. UCSF Champions did 50+ free health screenings, where the attendees received comprehensive screenings which gave members of the community access to care. In addition, there were booths, one in particular, the Plant-Based Wellness & Lifestyle Booth. This booth focused on the education of plant-based living, a unique 3-month pilot program was launched, encouraging attendees to adopt a plant-based lifestyle while tracking health markers. Approximately 50 individuals signed up for the trial on the same day. Combined with 43 prior participants and 70 JCNC vegan members, this brings the estimated community to 163 plant-based members.
One of the biggest highlights of this event came through our partnership with the Stanford Blood Center, whose on-site blood drive resulted in 44 productive units donated, with the potential to save 120+ lives. It was a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together for a cause.
Other resources included marathon training; which provided support for active living, general wellness consultations; which were provided by physicians, therapists, which was especially beneficial to those who did not have health insurance.
Lastly, a huge shoutout to:
Organ Donor Network – Organ donation awareness & registration
EDRC (Eating Disorders Resource Center) – Mental health and eating disorder education
UCSF – Full-spectrum holistic health screenings and physician consultations
Vibha Striders – Resources for marathon training and active living
Plant-Based Wellness Foundation – Education on plant-based lifestyle and healthy habits.
We are so pleased with all the hard work our founders, specifically Nivriti Vira, supported by Aanya Shah, Sneha Karani, and Sandip Shah, put in to make this event such a success. This event truly helped us spread health awareness to all, provide opportunities to the community, and create active connected communities!
